Course Description:
In a busy dental practice,
it is often difficult to "step back," and view practice management
challenges from a different perspective. "Thinking outside the box"
may help to improve and revitalize relations among dental team members and
between team members and their patients. This course reviews research evidence
and principles from Psychology, Sociology and the emerging field of Behavioral
Economics and provides suggestions as to how to apply these principles in the
dental office. Dental team members may use these principles to facilitate better
working relations among team members, and also to increase patient treatment
plan acceptance and adherence to instructions and advice from the dental team.
Course Objectives:
Dental team
members completing this course will be able to:
1. Discuss the importance of establishing and
maintaining dentist-patient relations and relations among team members for the
development of a successful professional practice.
2. Describe research on marital interaction from
psychology and sociology and how to apply this research to team relations in the
dental office.
3. Identify different personality styles and determine
effective management techniques for individual patients based on those
personality styles.
4. Describe research from behavioral economics and how
it affects patient motivation and decision-making.
5. Select and apply strategies from these fields to
common challenges in the dental office.
